The Story

In June 2016, Friends & Co was taken on by Dubai Design Week to put together a PR strategy for the fair. As well as producing a set of nine comprehensive press releases and writing and distributing 150 Tweets and Instagram posts, we suggested creating an engaging piece of collateral that would support communications by promoting design in Dubai to journalists and stakeholders in a contextual way.


The Result

Friends & Co commissioned a crack team of professional journalists and designers to write, lay out and edit a magazine-style brochure across five time zones in five weeks. The Design Guide to Dubai was very well received as it:


/  Portrayed design as an important economic driver for the city and a cornerstone for cultural development


/  Introduced the key players behind Dubai Design Week with a series of ‘pen portraits’


/  Presented key statistics from an industry study in the form of infographics


/  Profiled 10 great products in a range of styles, with various functions and provenance


/  Listed key presentations, exhibitions and workshops from the public programme


/  Highlighted key buildings, districts, activities and attractions using a highly stylised, illustrated map
